Thunderbird Charities Announces $5,000 Grant to Diana Gregory Outreach Services

Diana Gregory Outreach Services (DGOS), a growing non-profit which operates healthy eating and cooking programs for Maricopa County seniors, veterans, and their families, is the recipient of a $5,000 grant from Thunderbirds Charities to support fresh produce purchases for its Nourishing Grandkids initiative.

CEO and founder Diana Gregory started DGOS in 2009, after retiring from a successful career as a sales and marketing executive at beer giant Anheuser-Busch. Gregory combined her deep expertise in sales, marketing, merchandising, and branding with a strong passion for giving back to the local community to create Gregory’s Fresh Market, a mobile produce market. DGOS and Gregory’s Fresh Market (GFM) quickly grew in popularity and impact, providing more than 120,000 pounds of fresh produce to 8,000 low-income and underserved seniors and veterans last year.

In 2017, Diana Gregory identified a new segment of the senior population that impacts senior health: grandparents who act as the primary caregivers of their grandchildren and who lack access to nutritious foods. In Maricopa County, this growing population consists of close to 9,000 seniors on fixed incomes who are caring for one or more grandchildren—many on a permanent basis. Nourishing Grandkids is an intergenerational project through DGOS that provides nutritional and social support for grandparents who are the primary caregivers of their grandchildren. Children are encouraged to actively participate in all activities, learning healthy cooking and eating along the way. In this way, Nourishing Grandkids touches the lives of older adults as well as an emerging generation of children.
