THE THUNDERBIRDS LICENSE PLATE

The Thunderbirds, hosts of the WM Phoenix Open, are supporting youth in our community and so can you with our new license plate! Founded in 2019, The Thunderbirds Scholars Program provides a four-year, full ride, renewable scholarship to attend Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University or University of Arizona. This scholarship covers the cost of attendance including tuition, fees, and room and board. Recipients receive mentoring support from Education Forward Arizona. The Thunderbirds Scholars Program will entertain requests for opportunities for study abroad, internships and other programs. You can purchase the new Thunderbirds license plate for $25 per year, and $17 of each sale will support The Thunderbirds Scholars program.

How much does The Thunderbirds license plate cost?

The license plate will cost $25 annually for a non-personalized plate and $50 annually for a personalized plate (six-character limit). The fees are charged each year upon registration renewal.

What if I already have a personalized license plate but want to upgrade to The Thunderbirds specialty plate design?

You can apply for the new plate design by going to an MVD office, an authorized third-party office or online at azmvdnow.gov. A new application and personalized/specialty plate fees will apply.

What will my purchase support?

A portion of each sale ($17 from each plate) will benefit The Thunderbirds Scholars program. Founded in 2019, The Thunderbirds Scholars program provides a full-tuition scholarship awarded each year to two deserving high school seniors who will be attending either Arizona State University, University of Arizona, or Northern Arizona University in a four-year degree program. The Thunderbirds want to help deserving students succeed and create real opportunities for a positive future for Arizona youth.
