OCJ (Opportunity, Community, and Justice for Foster) Kids was honored is receive a generous grant of $30,000 from Thunderbirds Charities for its Healing and Restoration for Abused Foster Girls Program. This funding will help at least 300 foster girls ages 8-18 cope with past abuse and prepare for a brighter future.
The program addresses the negative impacts abuse has on girls. These include flashbacks, difficulty sleeping, panic attacks, and/or social anxiety. The program goal is to restore the dignity, hope, and self-confidence that were stolen from foster girls due to abuse.
OCJ Kids teaches girls how to heal from past abuse, engages them in life skills development activities to build their self-confidence, and helps them increase their resilience and self-esteem. The program also teaches girls to measure themselves for a bra and gives them free undergarments and monthly cycle items. OCJ Kids’ caring female staff teach them about body care and physical changes to expect during puberty. The program is primarily conducted in our Thunderbirds Charities Restoring Dignity Room – the only one of its kind in Arizona.
“We are so grateful to Thunderbirds Charities for its generous support of this program,” said Gary Webb, OCJ Kids’ President and Founder. “The funds will help these innocent victims gain resilience, cope with past abuse, and develop self-confidence so they can heal and have a successful future.”
