Thunderbirds Charities Awards $100,000 to Help Remove Barriers to Housing and Employment

Thunderbirds Charities’ generous $100,000 grant will support Homeless ID Project in our mission to end homelessness by providing the first critical step: identification. We aim to serve 17,000 clients who are homeless or at risk of experiencing homelessness in 2025. This funding will allow us to scale, improve access through mobile units, and ensure each client has the documents they need to access shelter, employment, healthcare, education, and more.
This funding supports service delivery, document costs, and mobile unit operations-bringing services to individuals who would otherwise not be able to obtain documents due to mobility, transportation, or safety barriers. This funding will also apply to staff capacity to meet the ever-growing demand and expansion of partnerships with shelters, youth programs, and reentry services across Maricopa County.
For one experiencing homelessness, something as simple as a lost ID can be a major barrier. With this funding, we can meet people where they are, both literally and figuratively, to help them take the first step towards self-sufficiency and stability.
“Thunderbirds Charities’ investment is transformational,” Said Rick Mitchell, Executive Director of Homeless ID Project. “This gift enables us to ay ‘yes’ to more people, removing a critical barrier. We’re deeply grateful for their partnership in helping thousands of Arizonans rebuild their lives.”
