Smiles for Veterans recently received a generous $25,000 grant from Thunderbirds Charities. The grant will be used to provide essential dental care to low or no income veterans.
The partnership of Thunderbirds Charities will help an estimated 15 veterans in Maricopa County, Arizona, receive the dental care they need for a healthy life. Procedures covered are typically tooth removal, root canals, and dentures. Veterans we help are in dire need of oral healthcare leaving them struggling to eat healthy foods, experiencing pain, and with low self-esteem. Smiles for Veterans is the only organization in the state providing dental care specifically for veterans. Our program is provided year-round, at no or low cost to those we help. All program participants are US veterans, an estimated 60% are aged 60 or older, and 30% are disabled.
From our Executive Director, Jan Christensen: “We are proud to do our part to support veterans in need in Arizona, including Maricopa County. Our organization has facilitated dental care for veterans for 11 years. We partner with dental providers to receive services at a discount, allowing us to triple the impact of any funding received. We are very grateful for the support of Thunderbirds Charities for our work!”
