Northwest Valley Connect Essential Transport

Northwest Valley Connect (NVC) has recently been awarded a $5,000 grant from Thunderbirds Charities to support the Essential Transport project. This project will assist 500 seniors whose quality of life has been threatened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Medical and other services have been put on hold for a large portion of seniors living in the West Valley as the fear of contracting COVID-19 has limited their ability to safely leave their homes for their health care and human service needs.

A volunteer leadership team will manage a planned effort that interfaces with and enlists participation by this fragile group of seniors in community resources by using “well check calls,” case managing medical transport, assuring NVC/COVID-19 Health and Safety procedures, and promoting NVC safe transport availability. Kathryn Chandler, Executive Director states, “As community services reopen, it is important to cultivate assurances for fear-based, isolated individuals and in partnership with Thunderbirds Charities, I believe vulnerable seniors will feel secure to re-enter community activities using NVC essential/medical transport services.”
