The grant will help Encircle Families provide individualized mentoring and education to approximately 300 families in Maricopa County who are navigating Arizona’s healthcare, education, and social service systems. The program focuses on families facing the greatest barriers, including those with low incomes, those living in underserved communities, and families who are non-English speakers. Services are available in both English and Spanish.
Encircle Families’ Mentoring and Support Program pairs parents and caregivers with trained Family Support Specialists who are also parents of children with disabilities. Through one-to-one mentoring, families receive guidance on understanding their rights, accessing services, and advocating effectively for their children. This peer-to-peer model builds trust, reduces isolation, and empowers families with practical tools and confidence.
“Families often come to us feeling overwhelmed and unsure of where to turn,” said Encircle Families’ Executive Director Christopher Tiffany. “Support from Thunderbirds Charities allows us to walk alongside families during critical moments, especially following a new diagnosis, and help ensure they are not navigating these systems alone.”
