With generous funding from Thunderbirds Charities, Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank is very excited to expand our Mobile Food Distribution program to Chandler schools. By working with the Chandler School District, we’re making it easier for students and families to access nutritious food right where they are. The “Fresh Futures” pop-ups allow families to choose their own groceries from a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, meats, and pantry staples. Bringing the food to the schools helps to remove the stigma of asking for help and any transportation barriers of going to a food bank. The “Fresh Futures” mobile food distributions do more than provide meals. They reduce stress on families because they’re not worrying about where the next meal is coming from. Providing healthy and nourishing food allows children to thrive in and out of the classroom, setting them up for a successful future. They have better school attendance, can focus more, grades tend to improve, and they’re more engaged in the classroom and with their peers.
Our first “Fresh Futures” pop-up was held at Hartford Elementary School in Chandler, where we served 250 families. Our next two mobile distributions will be at Galveston Elementary School in Chandler.
